HIRE OUR AIRCRAFT

All of our aircraft are available to hire at extremely competitive rates.

We boast one of the best and lowest cost hire schemes available allowing you to fly our Eurostar or Ikarus aircraft for as little as £40 per month and £88 for one hour including fuel and one landing at Barton. Unlike other schools, not only do you pay one of the lowest PPL hire rates in the UK, you also only pay for the time you spend in the air and not taxi time so an hours flying really is an hours flying.

We use the Shlott online booking system meaning you can check aircraft availability from your computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet and even submit a booking request at any time of the day or night. This system is accessible once you have commenced training with us for your licence or for your PPL check.

Many PPL hirers have been on exciting trips in our aircraft including a trip around France, a group fly out to IWM Duxford and also a day trip to the Isle of Man to visit friends and family.

Also, hours flown in a microlight count towards maintaining an EASA PPL and LAPL. More information on this can be found in this article from the BMAA by scrolling down to 'EASA and Microlights'.

In order to hire a Mainair aircraft or convert onto a microlight a pilot must complete the following minimum requirements:

  • 2 hours flying consisting of general handling, stalls, emergency procedures and circuits,

  • 1 hour of local airspace awareness including the Manchester Low Level Route and Hawarden RMZ,

  • 1 hour ground school on City Airport procedures and Radio Telephony procedures to Mainair standard,

  • Satisfactory understanding of TAFs/METARs, F214, F215, and GAMET,

  • Read and sign the Mainair Pilots Handbook,

  • Read the aircraft POH,

  • Be a member of the British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA)

  • Use a VFR moving map with airspace alerts such as SkyDemon, RunwayHD or equivalent product.

The pilot must also produce their pilot licence, logbook and medical. Once all of the above has been completed to a satisfactory standard, the pilot may join the hire scheme.

To sign up to the scheme please contact the flying school either by phone, email or in person.
