GROUND SCHOOL

Flying School Classroom

Our purpose built classroom facility allows you to learn in a quiet and relaxing environment

Groundschool is carried out in our fully equipped and modern classroom. Classes are restricted to a maximum of 9 people with courses starting every month. Take a look at the news page for the latest available courses. Note that groundschool is also available on a one-to-one basis. There are 5 ground school examinations for the NPPL licence and 2 for the radio telephony licence:

1. Microlight Air Law

Together with Human Performance and Limitations, Air Law is one of the prerequisite exams you need to have passed before going solo. The course covers the following:

  • Air Navigation Order

  • Aircraft Documentation

  • Permit to Fly

  • Pre-flight Actions

  • Drunkeness in Aircraft

  • Smoking in Aircraft

  • Documents to be carried

  • Aerodrome Procedures

  • Airspace

  • Types of air traffice service

  • Flight Plans

  • Flight Information

  • Warning Signals

  • Joining Procedures

 

2. Human Perfomance and Limitations

Together with Air Law, Human Performance and Limitations is one of the prerequisite exams you need to have passed before going solo. The course covers the following:

  • Hypoxia

  • Hyperventilation

  • Barotrauma

  • Hearing

  • Sight

  • Illness

  • Alcohol/Drugs

  • Avoiding the Airmiss

  • Disorientation

  • Stress

  • The Senses

 

3. Meteorology

The course covers the following: 

  • The atmosphere

  • Clouds

  • Formation of Clouds

  • Pressure

  • Altimeter

  • Wind

  • Temperature

  • Humidity

  • Effects of Weather on flight

 

4. Navigation

The course covers the following: 

  • Weather Forcasts & Reports

  • Maps & Charts

  • Map Reading

  • The Earth

  • Magnetic Variation

  • Compass Deviation

  • Flight Planning

 

5. Aircraft Technical

The course covers the following: 

  • The Engine

  • Propeller

  • Electrical System

  • Ignition

  • Fuel System

  • Oil System

  • Exhaust

  • Carburation

  • Airframe

  • Principles of Flight
